Why leave a gift in your Will?

Most people who leave a gift in their Will to a charity are ordinary, hardworking people who want to make a positive difference to a cause they care about after they’re gone.
The impact of such a gift to the Himalayan Trust is enormous. It means we can plan our long-term development work more effectively, enabling more people to improve their lives through cleaner water and improved access to education and healthcare.
How to include a gift to the Himalayan Trust in your Will
We encourage you to talk to your family and loved ones about your Will. Once you’ve made sure your loved ones are taken care of, should you then decide to leave a gift to the Himalayan Trust, it’s usually a fairly simple process.
Often this simple wording is enough: “I give and bequeath to the Himalayan Trust (Charities Commission CC39393) for its general purposes the sum of $…/ .. % of the residue of my estate. I declare that the receipt of the Himalayan Trust will be sufficient discharge to my Executors.”
However, wills are important legal documents, and we recommend that you use a solicitor or qualified will writer (recognised by a professional body) to draw up your will. The cost is minimal, but getting your wishes correctly and legally recorded now will save your family or executor time and money in the future. It will also bring peace of mind to know that your will is legally binding. The New Zealand Law Society and your local Citizens Advice Bureau can help you find a solicitor if you don’t already have one.
