Resources for schools

The Himalayan Trust education pack takes students on a learning journey through Sir Ed’s adventures in the Himalayas and his legacy of helping others.

This is a uniquely Kiwi story that will inspire young New Zealanders to follow in Sir Ed’s footsteps and challenge themselves, help others, and have fun doing it!

All the activities and resource materials in this free education pack have been designed to support the New Zealand Social Sciences Curriculum Level 3 and 4, with some activities extending to Level 2 and 5. The resources also encourage inquiry learning.

Highlights of the learning journey

  • Why is Edmund Hillary celebrated as one of the greatest New Zealanders?
  • Explore the Himalayas and meet the people who live in the Everest region.
  • Learn why Ed worked so hard to help his friends in the mountains.
  • Take on your own Summit Challenge and make a difference in the local or global community.

There are 10 topic areas in total. Each topic includes a series of suggested activities as well as teacher-and student-support materials.
