Land Rover brings safe water to Nepal

To celebrate what would have been Sir Ed’s 100th birthday, Land Rover New Zealand will bring safe water to Nepal thanks to their Sir Ed Hillary Limited Edition Discovery.

Land Rover will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each vehicle to the Himalayan Trust to help continue Hillary’s legacy supporting and improve health and education for communities in the remote, mountainous regions of Nepal.

The Himalayan Trust is working with Land Rover and our partners in Nepal on plans to bring safe, clean running water to hundreds of people living in the villages of Bubsa and Monjo in the Solukhumbu region near Mount Everest.

This amazing support from Land Rover New Zealand will provide irrigation systems and residential water supply for 900 villagers in Monjo and Bubsa; bringing filtered water to each house as well as providing fire-fighting infrastructure to protect their homes.

“This initiative will make a real difference in the lives of many Nepalese, and we are privileged to help continue the work of this legendary New Zealander,” said Land Rover NZ General Manager Steve Kenchington.

Sir Ed’s son Peter said the family has had a connection to the Land Rover brand for generations and his father would have appreciated its use to raise funds for a cause he was so passionate about.

Himalayan Trust General Manager said: “We are incredibly grateful to Land Rover NZ for their support, which will mean hundreds of families and children will soon have a reliable supply of clean water to their homes. For families in rural Nepal, nothing is more vital to their health and well-being than having access to safe, clean water.”
