Safe water in Bubsa

Progress update

Bubsa water progress

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, and with special support from Land Rover New Zealand, we are building a safe water system in Bubsa village.

The water system includes water tanks, pipes, taps and water hydrants, capable of collecting and storing enough water for daily household use for the whole village and to irrigate crops. The water will be cleaned through a sand-filtration system and then delivered directly into homes.

Air delivery

A long monsoon this year caused landslides that cut off roads and delayed the delivery of the construction materials. But as soon as the roads were cleared, the delivery trucks set off with materials including, cement, HDPE piping and large water tanks.

The construction materials were trucked from Kathmandu to Phaplu airport and then transported by helicopter to Bubsa village. In total, it took 11 flights to deliver all the materials. The materials are all now on site and ready for installation.

Clearing in the rain

The construction team and the local community have been working hard to clear sites and dig trenches for the pipes – persevering with the work despite the monsoon downpours.

Our local partner, Action for Nepal, has taken on a skilled field technician, Lakpa Tamang Gole, who will help guide and manage semi-skilled labour on-site.

Next steps: tanks and pipes

The next steps for the team will be installation of the water tanks and laying of the pipes.

Water changes everything

Thanks to our supporters, water will transform lives in Bubsa.

With safe water, the health of families will improve. Children will have more time for schoolwork. Women will have more time to spent on productive activities like growing crops to eat and to sell for an income.

In numbers

The Himalayan Trust is currently building water systems in the villages of Bubsa and Monjo.

  • 900 people in Bubsa and Monjo villages will have access to safe water
  • 67 homes in Monjo connected to safe water by 5km of pipes and 2 reservoir tanks
  • 116 homes in Bubsa connected to safe water by 15km of pipes from 16 reservoir tanks

Thank you to our amazing supporters and to Land Rover New Zealand for generously supporting the Himalayan Trust’s safe water programme.

Together we are truly changing lives.
